Crafty Sculptures with Styrofoam Blocks
Monday, November 28th, 2011Styrofoam comes in different shapes and sizes. There is the ball, the block, the wreath, and a whole lot more. Styrofoam is something that can be used not only by professionals but also by want-to-be artists as young as four years of age.
One art project that can be done by any artist regardless of his or her age is a mosaic ball. A mosaic ball is made out of a Styrofoam ball. It is important to know the theme first to be able to determine the materials needed for this project.
One of the popular themes is the seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. The materials for this project vary from leaves to a broken vase, from earrings with lost pairs to beads, or anything that has a sentimental value to the artist but seems to be of no use to them anymore. Ribbons, strings, and glitters are also some of the materials that can add color to the mosaic ball. Another project that the adults might enjoy is a potpourri.
Instead of making a common potpourri wherein the petals are simply stored in a box, the artist can use a Styrofoam ball instead and glue the petals all over the ball’s surface. It can be a really big ball or a mixture of smaller ones stored inside a round glass bowl. A bit of imagination is all it takes to put life on something as simple as a white ball.
